Between June 2023 and June 2024, the number of requests we have received from journalists has almost doubled, but the supply of media law attorneys to take on these matters hasn’t proportionally increased to meet the need.
To respond to this challenge, ProJourn is launching its Incubator, which will help increase the number of attorneys who can assist journalists with pre-publication review. Pre-publication requires substantial training in addition to the on-the-job training that our pro bono opportunities provide volunteer attorneys with.
The first edition of our incubator includes three legal sessions to provide a substantial introduction to pre-publication legal review and areas of law related to vetting editorial articles including newsgathering rights, defamation, and privacy. The first session will include a critical review of a news article and a hands-on collective review.
The sessions will be led by seasoned media attorneys from ProJourn partners, including participating law firms, legal clinics, and other legal support organizations.
The first session will be held in person in NYC, followed by two virtual sessions.
CLE credits are available.
By invitation only. If you are interested, please email us at projourn@rcfp.org.
