Associate principal counsel, ABC News
Selina MacLaren is an attorney at ABC News, where she advises ABC-owned broadcast stations and networks.
In this role, she provides newsgathering advice to investigative reporters, conducts pre-publication content reviews for documentaries and breaking news, and specializes in court access issues.
Before this she was an associate at the Los Angeles office of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, focusing on the First Amendment and media litigation. There she represented content creators in the news, tech, and entertainment worlds, in a wide range of speech and press-related lawsuits.
Outside of counseling clients, she speaks and writes publicly on First Amendment trends and the rich area of law where the internet and speech intersect. She started her media law career as a fellow at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, where she focused on how national security issues affect journalists.
